Summer is the best time for indulging in some much-needed self-care and what better place to “fill your cup” than at the beach, where an ocean awaits to quench even the strongest thirst (metaphorically speaking, of course). While you won’t discover the coveted role of beach bum within the pages of Forbes magazine, you will find it at the top of the average seaside lovers’ weekend wish list. Where else can you unwind and leave your troubles behind than the beach, where lounging is considered a respectable activity and no shoes are required to fulfill that noble task? While juicy Beach Reads are welcomed, the scenery promises to be a feast for the sights and the salt air, along with suntan lotion scents, are guaranteed to lift your spirits. Dolphins have been known to put on a (free) performance and show worthy sandcastles are sure to inspire a bit of creativity (should creativity come a callin’).

Let yourself imagine, less lists and more loafing, fewer worries and added wonder (as in, I wonder how many PTOs will fund my quest to become the ultimate Summer Beach Bum?)

Living simply, even if for a few short hours, is the only assignment on the Beach Bum’s To-Do list. They’re too busy “being” and refuse to worry about all that “doing” currently occurring in another world, wisely knowing it’s more important to be happy than to be harried. A free spirit, after all, is open to what the day brings, gliding with life’s ebbs and flows, ultimately sailing into the sweetest places.

Why not answer the call of the seagulls and surrender to the sand and sea, if only for the weekend?
