Meg the Movie Buff Goes to Hollywood
Sherlock Holmes is on a mission; to track down the elusive Santa Claus, rumored to be chilling out by the sea behind his darkest shades, shielding himself from the sun as well as the paparazzi. The cunning but Fantastic Mr. Fox joins in the search for the season’s most sought-after guy. They quickly learn It’s Complicated to pin down a being as legendary as Santa. Alvin and the Chipmunks: return for The Squeakquel and unite in the chase, long wish lists in their furry paws. They finally discover the big guy at the local movie theater, reciting A Christmas Carol before the opening credits, promising good tidings to all and a jolly holiday season at the shore!
Before celebrating another holiday season at the movies, please check your local listings for release date changes.
A Christmas Carol (opens Nov. 6th) is told to Ebenezer Scrooge (voice of Jim Carrey) in a Charles Dickens-inspired animated voyage to save one man’s soul with the help of three ghosts (also voice by Jim Carrey) and a sparkling seascape sure to soothe any spirit. Robin Wright Penn and Michael J. Fox also lend their voices.
In a stop-motion animated world, the Fantastic Mr. Fox (opens Nov. 13th, voice of George Clooney), along with his wife and son (voices of Meryl Streep and Jason Schwartzman) look for a safe shore retreat after the local farmers they’ve been outfoxing try to get rid of them.
While The Twilight Saga: New Moon (opens Nov. 25th) rises, Edward and Bella (Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart) are separated in their dangerous world, mooning over lost love and longing for salty, starry nights.
A famous movie director (Daniel Day-Lewis), with nearly Nine (opens Nov. 25th) films to his credit, and no time for a beach break, tries to stay sane while dealing with the many women in his life. Also stars Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench and Nicole Kidman.
Life is suddenly Up in the Air (opens Dec. 4th) for a SkyScraper-loving, happily unattached corporate downsizing expert (George Clooney) as he approaches ten million frequent flyer miles shortly after meeting a fellow frequent-flyer-miles-traveler (Vera Farmiga).
A recent widower (Robert DeNiro) hopes that Everybody’s Fine (opens Dec. 4th) as he struggles to reconnect with his grown children (Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale), who are more interested in conversation than Carousel rides.
Did You Hear About the Morgans? (opens Dec. 18th, Hugh Grant, Sarah Jessica Parker), the estranged New York City couple who witnessed a murder and were sent to small-town Wyoming after being placed in the Witness Protection Program? Anxious to keep a low profile, they search aimlessly for a beach where they can bury each other in the sand.
A divorcee (Meryl Streep) looking for the simplicity and sanctuary of surf and sand learn It’s Complicated (Dec. 25th) when she has an affair with her married ex-husband (Alec Baldwin) while attracting the attention of the architect (Steve Martin) remodeling her kitchen.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: are back for The Squeakquel (opens Dec. 25th) as Dave (Jason Lee) sends Alvin, Simon and Theodore (voices of Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney) to high school, where they meet their girl counterparts, the Chipettes, and dream of romantic paw-in-paw boardwalk afternoons.
Detective Sherlock Holmes (opens Dec. 25th, Robert Downey, Jr.) uses martial-arts expertise, his infamous deductive psyche and keen miniature golf skills to battle the sinister Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong). Also stars Jude Law.
After watching more than Nine festive movies, our cast of holiday characters (sans Santa) abandons their cozy theater seats for a brisk boardwalk stroll. On a clear, starry night, they joyfully reflect on The Twilight Saga: (as the) New Moon rises Up in the (sea) Air. Did You Hear About the Morgans? extending their holiday shore trip is the hot topic of conversation, as everyone in the cast is invited to join them. Everybody’s Fine lengthening their shore stay, as a wish is made on the stars for another magical, sea-scented holiday season to all and a Happy New (Movies) Year!🎉🧨🎇
